If you had five minutes to talk to Fort Collins, what would you say? What if you only had 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Our goal is to choose talks that are interesting, educational, thought-provoking and engaging. No recruiting or product pitches please. Be sure to include a description. More cleverness = more votes.

The top 6 presentations by popular vote will get in (pending discretion of the Ignite Fort Collins Team). The remaining 8 presentations will be selected by the Ignite Fort Collins Team based on a number of factors, including diversity of topics and speakers.

Voting and submissions will close on April 25, 2012.

      • The Great Library Swindle: Your Rights Are At Risk

Libraries, oft loved and honored are under attack from the most unlikely of sources. • Esperanto is "like Klingon" . . . and other myths.

Esperanto has been compared to Klingon. Maybe because one of William Shatner's first roles had him speaking it (badly) in a B movie? Maybe because they are both constructed languages? Whatever the reason for the misconception, the two are polar opposites.

Esperanto was crafted by a master linguist 125 years ago, and is actually spoken by 2 million people worldwide today. Learn more about this fascinating international language -- from a fluent speaker!

                      • Whoa, I just got to the real world. Does anyone else have any idea what they’re doing? Cause I don’t!

Some girl turned 23 and asked the Coloradoan to let her write a column about “figuring it out” after college. They said yes, and sent her hurtling down a road of self-discovery, and more importantly, community discovery. Find out how the Fort Collins community taught the Hungry Grad that her story matters, and why your story does, too. We’re all trying to figure out how to do life, but it turns out, it feels a whole lot easier when we’re working on it together.

The emphasis of this presentation will be altering learning styles and student engagement with an emphasis on entrepreneurship. Currently I help coach youth in the Young Entrepreneur Tournament where we help students develop business, in which they present to a panel of local small business owners and community members. We see our program going national and with the possibility of integration into high schools. My speech will cover the effects, potentials and possibilities of re-engineering education

For the past year, I have been learning the steps to starting a business. It was the community of Fort Collins that has helped me make an idea possible. As I am still in the process of starting this business, I would like to share what the community has shared with me. This topic is to not only encourage others to start a business, but how a community can teach you and help you start a business.

Sci-Fi is a fantastic platform to show us what life could be like if certain things happened...

A lot of the time, whatever is going wrong is something that the writers fear the most - and it's closer to reality than you might think.

Dollhouse? You bet. Terminator? Uh huh. V? Well, not 100%, but almost.

My personal recipe for conjuring up world-saving ideas comes from what my wife would call "pure torture". I sit through old Sci-Fi shows to see where they went wrong, and how they set it straight.

Brought to you by Ignite Speaker Jen Sajbel MS RD of "How to Cut a Fresh Pineapple....Without Fear" fame. Have you looked West towards Longs Peak and wondered just what it would take to get to the top? Other than lots of water and starting at O'Dark Thirty in the morning? I can give you lots of tips then you need to do the work. Being safe will keep you around to try lots of these lovely peaks. I've been up all 54 of them, some multiple times and some only after many attempts. There are some "easier" 14er hikes… more

Many adults express regrets that as a child they had a bad experience with bad lessons or simply quit for various reasons. These stereotypes remain in their minds which results in a fear that it is too late to express their latent creative aspirations in this manner. This is unfortunate as everyone has an internal desire to respond to their inner world emotions and to let them be expressed in a meaningful way. It has also been clinically proven that music lessons are a primary way to reduce stress as well as an aid to the more and more prevalent… more

Come learn about the philosophy of these bizarre and logic-defying gadgets and gizmos which, according to the Ten Tenets of Chindogu, must work, yet be entirely impractical. These inventions, created in the spirit of anarchy, must not be patented or sold. Chindogu has inspired such inventions as the noodle eater's hair guard, the hydrophobe's bath body suit, and the subway snoozer's chin stand.

It might be preaching to the choir in this physically active community to tell people "You should run a marathon".

However, hoping to inspire the not-so-active folks to take up running, and the challenge of running & finishing a marathon, and enjoy themselves all through the 26.22 miles run.
